ANYwhere: Motivation

In a previous post I wrote about my goals. More specifically goals I wanted to accomplish before I turn 30. I’m only two (eek) short months away from turning 30, and I’ve hit a slump in achieving my goals.

I have had to step back these past few weeks and really evaluate what is important to me. Sometimes I over commit and other times I can’t find the motivation. I am more concerned when I am unmotivated, as there is usually a underlying reason for lack of motivation.

Here are the first four things I do when I need to reevaluate my motivation:

  1. Sleep- When things get crazy in my life, I always start with how much sleep I am getting, or not getting. I tend to find that if I am not getting enough sleep, it is because I either am staying up late playing on my phone -or- stressed about upcoming events.
  2. To-Do Lists– I am a planner! I make to-do lists for everything! My favorite app I use to keep me on track is ToDoIst. I can organize all my items by category and this app can be used on a desk top, so I can keep it open on my computer at all times. It even e-mails me every morning about things I have coming up!
  3. Action Plans– I wrote about this in a previous post, but I do use these often. I sometimes make an action plan for a specific project or goal, or for a boarder subject, such as what do I want to do with my life. Either way it can help ask those tough questions to help you get on track.
  4. Reaching Out– Sometimes you just need to realize you can’t do it all by yourself. Maybe I just need a quick picker-uper, and a text message to a friend will do, or I need a colleague to help recommend a place to eat. Either way asking for help is always the hardest.

Anyways, here is to finishing my final two months in my twenties STRONG!

  1. You can do it! Going to have a look at that To-Do List app, as college student I think that could be very helpful. Re-evaluating your motivation sounds like a good idea. Not heard of many people who take the time to do that.

  2. You get it done girl! Those are some great steps, and I do most of those too. Sometimes you just need to stop where you are and refocus. Sounds like you have a great strategy in place for when you need to do that. I need to re-evaluate today too, I am getting overwhelmed with so many things to do!

  3. What a great idea to strive to finish your 20’s strong. I have found that sleep is the biggest thing to effect my mood and motivation. Lately I have not been sleeping well and as a result, I don’t want to do anything.

  4. I think you’ve rocked your 20’s! This is a great photo, by the way! Sleep is precious, isn’t it? And, you’re right! It’s really hard to do everything by yourself. Great reevaluation tips!

  5. Happy Almost 30th bday!! Although that was almost 5 years ago. It still feels like I just turned 30. Reaching out is my number one tip for enjoying your 30’s. If you don’t surround yourself with love, its not worth it!

  6. I need to take a leaf out of your book especially with your first goal. You know how mothers complain that kids don’t sleep at night? Well, adults don’t either, going by my experience. Every night, there is something or the other that keeps me up for ages. Good luck with your goals and enjoy the last couple of months in your 20s!

  7. Sleep is something I am constantly working on and trying to get enough of. I also find myself online or on my phone instead of going to sleep. When I am stressed or worried, I don’t sleep well either. It’s constantly a work in progress for me.

  8. I need to invest in a planner. I find myself leaving reminders on phone that I just hit complete so it can stop ringing and never go back to it. By the time I remember I’m scrambling to get it done. UGH

  10. I also LOVE To Do lists. Though I find diaries and pieces of paper next to me much more easy to keep track of. Also try “Batch Processing” Where instead of doing many different things throughout the day, flicking from one to another, try setting aside blocks of hours or days to focus on something specific. It’s much easier to track your progress that way and you won’t end up wasting time 🙂

  12. Entering your 30s is not a bad thing. I love being a 30+ woman (gonna be 34 in November), if you can’t accomplish all in these two weeks, just reminder when you’re 30 your wiser 🙂 But never feel unmotivated, everything will fall in it’s place. Good luck for these two weeks!!

  13. Oh happy early birthday and yup yup you sound like me. I over commit at times as well. Then I freak out – but then I manage to get it done. I love my To Do lists and could not cope without them! I have to check out that app!
